Everton manager David Moyes has praised January signing Nikica Jelavic, who has started his time on Merseyside brightly.

The Goodison Park club bought the forward from Scottish champions Rangers in the mid-season window, but the eastern European hitman suffered an injury early in his time in England.

However, after returning to fitness Jelavic has looked at home in the Everton line-up, scoring the only goal against Tottenham on his debut and again against Sunderland in the 2-0 victory on Tuesday night.

Moyes was quick to praise the forward, and feels that he has added to the team.

“I think he has played very well,” the Scot told The Guardian.

“He looks hungry, he looks like a centre-forward, and we have missed that. The boys like him. They like the way he plays, they like his style.

“He and Darron Gibson, Steven Pienaar and Landon Donovan [who has returned to LA Galaxy after a loan spell] came in January, and we have been able to pick up a little bit from that.”

Everton face Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals, but Moyes is taking it one game at a time.

“We have got a lot of games to go. Through this season we have won a few games – even some big games – and I actually don’t think we have played that well in them.

“But I actually think we did play well at times against Sunderland,” he concluded.
